The Historical Books
Following the events of the Pentateuch, the Historical Books describe God's people entering into the Promised Land, oppression of the nation, destruction and restitution of the temple.
The historical books include: Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther.
Jos 1:5 "As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you." Jos 1:9 "Be strong and of good courage. Do not be afraid nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Jos 3:7 And the Lord said to Joshua, “This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.” Jos 7:13 [God said] “Get up, sanctify the people, and say ‘Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, because thus says the Lord God of Israel: “There is an accursed thing in your midst, O Israel; you cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the accursed thing from among you.” Jos 23:6 Therefore be very courageous to keep and do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, lest you turn aside from it to the right hand or the left. Jos 24:15b But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Judg 6:37 Gideon said, "Look, I shall put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor, and if there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on the ground, then I shall know that You will save Israel by my hand as You have said." Judg 8:21 So Gideon arose and killed Zebad and Zalmunna [Midians], and took the crescent ornaments that were on their camel's necks.
Ruth 1:16-17 Wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you live, I will live; your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Ruth 4:6b "You redeem my right of redemption yourself, for I cannot redeem it."
2 Sam 7:12-13 “I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish His kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of His kingdom forever.”
2 Sam 12:23 “But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me."
1 Kings 2:1-3 As the time approached for David to die, he instructed his son Solomon . . . Be strong and brave and keep your obligation to the LORD your God to walk in His ways and keep His statutes, commandments, judgments, and testimonies . . . so that you will have success in everything that you do." (HCSB) 1 Kings 17:8-9 Then the word of the LORD came to [Elijah] saying, "Arise, go to Zarephath . . . I have commanded a widow to provide for you there." 1 Kings 17:14 "For says the LORD God of Israel: 'The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the LORD sends rain on the earth."
2 Kings 5:14 So Naaman went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, according to the command of the man of God. (HCSB)
2 Kings 5:15 [General Naaman said to Elisha] "I know there's no God in the whole world except in Israel. Therefore, please accept a gift from your servant." (HCSB) 2 Kings 6:16 Elisha said, "Don't be afraid for those who are with us outnumber those who are with them." (HCSB) 2 Kings 6:17b He looked and saw the mountain was covered with horses and chariots of fire. 2 Kings 13:18 And the man of God was angry with him, and said [to King Joash], "You should have struck five or sick times [instead of only three times]."
2 Ch 7:14 “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their nation.”
2 Ch 31:21 And in every work that [Hezikiah] began in service in the house of God, in the law and in the commandment, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart. So he prospered.
Neh 4:17 Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction and with the other held a weapon. Neh 4:20 “Whenever you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us.” Neh 8:10 Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
Est 4:16b "And so I will go to the king, which is against the law, and if I perish, I perish."
